An important decorative panel based on the famous drawing “La Casa degli Efebi, ” one of the most iconic compositions created by Gio Ponti during his early creative period in the field of Italian decorative arts.

The work features a complex scenographic architecture clearly inspired by classical models, constructed through an intricate system of suspended architectural elements—columns, pediments, balustrades, and drapery—inhabited by nude male figures in an archaeological style, the ephebes, a recurring subject in Ponti’s figurative imagery during the 1920s.

The design is based on a project originally created by Gio Ponti in 1923 for the artistic production of Richard Ginori and later reinterpreted by the Turin-based textile manufacturer Avigdor, which adapted the design into a refined decorative upholstery fabric.

The rich Pompeian red background, combined with the architectural gold tones and figures rendered in classic gray, directly evokes the Art Deco neoclassical style developed by Ponti in the early years of his career, making this panel a rare example of the dialogue between design, wall decoration, and 20th-century Italian textile production.
